About Pricing Illustration or Design
There are many factors involved in determining pricing.
Because each project is unique and customized, it is difficult to provide
an accurate estimate "on-the-spot". Instead, we'd like to briefly
discuss the parameters of the project with you to try to work within your
budget and determine a fair price. Here are just some of the considerations
we make when estimating a project:
Illustration
— Timeframe or Deadline
— Quantity (Multiple images
or images in a series will cost less per image than a single
image)
— Media (where it will
be used—in print, on the web, cover illustration vs. spot,
size of illustration, etc.)
— Complexity of style (full-color
vs. black-and-white; tonal vs. flat values)
— Complexity of subject
matter
— Market (where the illustration
will be used, target audience)
— Usage or Rights Granted
(licensing rights are described at right
|
|
Design
— Timeframe or Deadline
— Complexity of the piece(s)
(size, number of pages, die-cuts or other finishing options)
— Potential third-party
creative services
(e.g. photography, copywriting)
— Meetings, delivery/courier
costs
— Scans, separations and
other pre-press expenses
— Printing costs (four-color
process, spot colors, varnishes, paper stock)

Stock Illustration
Many of the images found on this site are available for stock purchase.
Pricing for stock illustration is based on the licensing rights desired,
the intended market/audience, and the media (e.g. print, web) in which
it is to be
used.
Illustrations that are available for purchase on this site are organized
by category in the portfolio section. Once you find an illustration you'd
like to license, click on the link to request a price.

Home :: About :: Working
with Clients :: Pricing
Usage rights for illustrations are sold
according to the client’s
needs, based on a tiered structure and priced accordingly, outlined (in
general) below:
One-time Usage:
Usually for print media, usage for one print run. This is the most economical
option, however reprints require relicensing for an additional fee.
Non-exclusive License: Unlimited
use within the specified media for a specified period of time. Non-exclusivity
means that the Illustrator may resell the artwork to other clients
as long as they are noncompetitive or do not compromise the commissioning
client’s market.
Exclusive License: Unlimited
use within the specified media for a specified period of time. Exclusivity
means that the Illustrator may not resell the artwork to any other
clients until the license with the commissioning client has expired.
All Rights Transfer: Transfer
of all rights to the illustration(s) as the exclusive property of Client.
