How We Work with Clients on a Medical Illustration or Graphic Design ProjectWhen contacted by a client we will first briefly discuss the parameters of the project in order for us to provide an accurate estimate. Once pricing is determined and an agreement is negotiated it’s time to start collaborating, problem-solving and creating. The entire project may last days, weeks or even months — it is completely dependent on the client's deadline, something we take and adhere to very seriously. The first step is the Information Gathering stage. We will discuss the style or mood of the illustration(s) or design project, and other needs/requirements, such as color scheme or corporate standards. Some clients already have some concepts or ideas in mind — either way we're here to help you realize your vision as well as offer ideas that you may not have considered — that's what collaboration is all about. Along with the information you provide, we perform additional research in order to become completely familiar with the assignment and subject matter. Depending on the subject matter, we also may confer with consultants or content experts to ensure accuracy. From the information gathering stage, we will begin to develop rough sketches. These rough sketches or thumbnails are how we work out potential ideas and compositions. From the rough sketches, preliminary sketches (for illustration projects) or design comps are presented to the client for review. The preliminary sketch or design comp will be accompanied by a detailed explanation of the thinking behind the concept—we realize that some people are more visual and others more verbal, so in both cases you will see how we arrived at our concept. The sketches or comps may go through several revisions before final art is completed. The final art is provided in digital format according to the specifications determined at the start of the project. If we are handling the printing for your project, which we often do for clients, you will see a printer's proof before your job goes on press. In some cases we will also arrange a press check to make any necessary color adjustments to the job as it is being printed.
